History: The ranch descends from the herd D. Carlos Conradi acquired from D. Rafael Laffite in 1885. One of the two branches into which it was divided passed that same year to D. Francisco Gallardo. D. José Moreno Santamaría acquired it in 1890. Following his death in 1910, it was divided, with one part going to his brother D. Anastasio and another to his nephews D. Francisco and D. Justo José Moreno Santamaría. A group of cows originating from Campos Varela was added in 1923, and the herd was divided in 1948 between D. José and D. Francisco. Following D. José's death, his daughter Dª Pilar Rufino Martín inherited it. In 1983 it was sold to D. José Romero Pérez, who removed all the previous stock and rebuilt the herd with 133 cows, 36 males and 5 breeding bulls purchased from D. Antonio Ordóñez, formerly Urquijo, in March 1984. This is the origin of the present herd. D. Pedro Gutiérrez Moya acquired it in 1987 and advertised it in his children's names. It was subsequently advertised as San Mateo and now as El Capea.
