- History
- The ranch descends from the herd D. Carlos Conradi acquired from D. Rafael Laffite in 1885. One of the two branches into which it was divided passed that same year to D. Francisco Gallardo. D. José Moreno Santamaría acquired it in 1890. After his death in 1910, it was divided, with one part going to his brother D. Anastasio and another to his nephews D. Francisco and D. Justo José Moreno Santamaría. A group of cows originating from Campos Varela was added in 1923. In 1948 it was divided between D. José and D. Francisco, with the original brand and ribbon colours going to D. Francisco. Following his death, it passed in 1955 to D. José Rufino Martín, who sold it in 1976 to D. Gabriel Hernández García. All cattle of that origin were removed, and in 1978 cows and breeding bulls were acquired from Dª Carmen Borrero, descended from D. Atanasio Fernández. In 1997, under Article 6 of the statutes, this ranch was formed from the share that went to D. Gabriel García Sánchez, which had itself been expanded in 1988 with cattle from ‘Los Bayones’. In 2003, Explotaciones Ganaderas Feligrés, S.L. bought the rights to the brand, changed its design, ribbon colours and ear mark, and adopted the name ‘Toros de Táliga’. In 2007 the advertised name changed to ‘El Freixo’; all the previous stock was removed and the herd was established with cows and breeding bulls from Garcigrande and D. Daniel Ruiz.
