History
The ranch was founded in the late eighteenth century by D. Atanasio de Lamo with cattle from D. José Jijón and expanded with cows from the Marqués de Cuéllar de Baza, before passing to his son D. José. In 1914, D. Jerónimo Frías, heir to D. José de Lamo, took charge. In 1922, he added a group of cows from the Duque de Veragua and, six years later, a breeding bull named “Canastillo” from D. Luis Melgarejo Tordesillas. After the ranch passed to D. José Tomás Frías, D. Jerónimo’s eldest son, its bloodlines were renewed with a breeding bull named “Cigarrón” from D. Samuel Flores. Later, 50 cows and a breeding bull named “Tetuano” from D. Domingo Ortega were added. On D. José Tomás’s death, the ranch began appearing under his children’s names. In 1979, D. Eugenio bought the brand rights from D. Miguel Báez “Litri”, changed the design and established the ranch with the share allotted to him in the division of Herederos de D. José Tomás Frías. He renewed the bloodline in 1994 with breeding bull no. 16, “Fugitivo”, of pure Torrealta origin, and in 1996 with breeding bull no. 48, “Aldeano”, from the same source. When D. Eugenio Frías Piqueras died in 2020, his son D. Manuel Frías Leguina took full charge of the ranch.
