History
This herd was founded in 1813 by Don Antonio Mera with cattle from the Marqués de Casa Ulloa and Don Vicente José Vázquez. It was acquired in 1834 by Don Juan Castrillón and in 1862 by Don Eduardo Schelly, who sold it in early 1884 to Don Rafael Surga. He crossed the herd with Murube breeding bulls. When Don Rafael died in 1921, it passed to his daughter, Doña Rosalía Surga, wife of Don Felipe Bartolomé, under whose name it was entered. Don Felipe Bartolomé removed all the Surga cattle, replacing them with stock from Don Joaquín Buendía, formerly Santa Coloma. Following Don Felipe's death in 1959, the herd was entered under his heirs' name.
