History
The ranch descends from the herd D. José Torres y Díez de la Cortina established in 1875 with part of the herd belonging to the heirs of D. José María Benjumea. D. Luis Gamero Cívico acquired it in 1901 and removed the Benjumea stock. It subsequently passed to D. José Gamero Cívico. The ranch belonged successively to Goyzueta Hermanos in 1918, D. Andrés López Chaves in 1920, D. Fabián Mangas in 1926, D. Lorenzo Rodríguez in 1928, D. Benito Martín Rodríguez and D. Juan Sánchez Tabernero in 1942. D. Francisco Ramírez Bernaldo de Quirós finally acquired it from the latter in 1950. On his death in 1953 it passed to his heirs, who divided it in 1957, with one lot going to Dª Carmen Ramírez Zurbano. D. Leonardo Vázquez Masa acquired it in 1972 and sold it to D. Antonio Rubio Dutroit. D. Manuel Navarro Sabido bought it in 1975, changed the brand and sold it in 1982 to ‘Hijos de don José Ortega’. They in turn sold it in 1985 to D. Antonio Borrero García, who advertised it as ‘Villalba’. Its current owners acquired it in 1987, adopted the present brand and bought cows from Peñajara in 1989. In 1991 they removed all the previous stock and established the herd with cows and breeding bulls from Jandilla and don Juan Pedro Domecq Solís.
