History
In 1942, Doña Vicenta Martín Esperanza, Cruz's widow, and her children established this herd with cattle from Doña Purificación Sánchez y Sánchez, formerly Trespalacios. In 1943, the Cruz family added a group of cows and a breeding bull purchased from Don Samuel Flores. Following Don Francisco's death, Cruz's widow sold the herd in 1951 to Don Eugenio Lázaro Soria and Don Manuel Martín-Peñato. In 1968, Soria and Peñato went their separate ways, leaving Don Manuel Martín-Peñato as sole owner. In 1979, he introduced crosses with breeding bulls from Don Francisco Galache, from the Don Félix Urcola branch of Vistahermosa bloodlines, through the Barbero de Utrera line. In 1999, all the cattle were removed and the brand was acquired by Don José Sánchez Benito, who established the herd with 74 cows and five breeding bulls purchased from El Ventorrillo, of pure Don Juan Pedro Domecq bloodlines. In 2000, he added 34 two-year-old heifers and two breeding bulls, followed in 2001 by another 40 two-year-old heifers and two breeding bulls, all of the same origin. In 2003, a further 33 cows were purchased from Don Santiago Domecq Bohórquez, of Núñez del Cuvillo bloodlines, together with two breeding bulls from Núñez del Cuvillo, and the ranch was renamed La Campana. In 2006, three new breeding bulls were acquired from Don Luis Algarra. In 2011, the ranch was purchased by Don Antonio Barrera. In 2022, 150 young cows from the Núñez del Cuvillo ranch were added. In 2023, the brand and herd were acquired by Don Miguel Seco Hijosa's company, La Castillera Agropecuaria, S.L.
