- History
- Founded by D. Manuel Suárez Cordero, the herd was divided among his children in 1850. D. Manuel’s share was acquired by Dª Dolores Monje, widow of Murube, who bought cows and males from D. José Arias Saavedra in 1863. It passed to her son D. Joaquín Murube, whose widow Dª Tomasa Escribano sold it in 1917 to D. Juan Manuel de Urquijo y Usía. He advertised it under his wife Dª Carmen de Federico’s name. In 1946 their son D. Antonio Urquijo de Federico inherited it. From 1957 it was advertised under the names of D. Antonio and D. Carlos Urquijo and, after D. Antonio’s death, under D. Carlos’s name. In 1980 he sold it to D. Antonio Ordóñez Araujo, who sold it in 1984 to D. José Murube Escobar, returning it to the family that had given the herd its name.
