History
In 1832, Don José María Benjumea Vecino founded his herd with cattle from Don José Vázquez of Seville, making its Madrid debut on 19 October 1848. In 1869, the cattle were fought under the name of José María Benjumea's children, and in 1876 under the names of his descendants, Don Diego and Don Pablo Benjumea Pérez de Seoane. The cattle grazed at Cortijo de San José in Seville. In 1919, the herd was sold to José Gómez ‘Joselito el Gallo’, who abandoned his plan to become a bull breeder because of his grief at his mother's death and simply dispersed the cattle, selling some groups and sending others to the slaughterhouse. In 1999, the brand was revived by Isabel Benjumea Cabeza de Vaca, a direct descendant of the herd's founder and mother of the current owner, Don Francisco Núñez Benjumea, who bought the herd in 2005. Today it consists of cows and breeding bulls from Joaquín Núñez del Cuvillo, the representative's father, whose herd was built over 25 years from several branches, all of Mora Figueroa origin. ‘After the purchase in 2020 of the Seville estate La Charolesa, in El Ronquillo, the males were moved to Spain, while the females continued grazing on the Portuguese estate Barahona.’
