History
Founded in 1848 by Don Antonio José Pereira Palha, who registered it in 1875 under the name of his son Don José Pereira Palha Blanco, the herd comprised cattle of Portuguese origin and from Concha y Sierra, Miura, Trespalacios and Veragua. Its cattle first appeared in Lisbon in 1854 and Madrid in 1862. In 1937, his grandsons Francisco and Carlos Van Zeller Palha inherited the herd and acquired cows from Pinto Barreiros and breeding bulls from Belmonte and Domingo Ortega. It was later expanded with a lot of cows and two breeding bulls from Isaías and Tulio Vázquez. In 1980, the herd passed to their nephews, the Van Zeller Palha Botelho Neves and Folque de Mendoça families, who successively acquired cows and breeding bulls from Oliveira Irmâos, three breeding bulls from Torrealta and, more recently, a lot of cows and three breeding bulls from Baltasar Ibán, which are kept separately. Today the herd consists of cows and breeding bulls from two distinct origins. The first comprises cattle from Pinto Barreiros, Don Isaías and Tulio Vázquez and Oliveira Irmaos, crossed with one another and partly with Torrealta bulls. The second comprises cows and breeding bulls carrying the Baltasar Ibán brand, kept separately.
