History
In the second half of the eighteenth century, the Conde de Vistahermosa established his famous herd. Its main portion passed to D. Salvador Varea in 1805 and from him to D. Pedro José Picavea de Lesaca in 1820. It subsequently passed to his widow and then to her son D. José Picavea de Lesaca. In 1845 it was acquired by D. Antonio Rueda de Quintanilla, Marqués de Saltillo. In 1880 it passed to his widow Dª Francisca Osborne and then to her son, who held the same title as his father. On his death in 1918, his widow sold the herd to D. Félix Moreno Ardanuy. After his death in 1960, it passed to his son D. Félix Moreno de la Cova, who advertised it as La Vega from 1969. From 1978 it was known as Saltillo. From D. Félix Moreno de la Cova it passed to his sons D. Félix and D. Enrique Moreno de la Cova Maestre, who contributed it to the breeding company Saltillo, S.L. in 2000. This herd is the origin of major, famous breeding ranches in Spain, such as Marqués de Albaserrada (the Victorino bulls) and Santa Coloma (Buendía), and in Mexico, such as Piedras Negras and San Mateo. In 2013, D. José Joaquín Moreno de Silva bought the brand and herd, with everything thereafter advertised under the name Saltillo.
