- History
- This ranch descends from the old Raso del Portillo herd, historically regarded as the oldest, whose cattle enjoyed the privilege of opening royal bullfights. The first two owners appear to have been D. Toribio and don Victorino Valdés. D. Pablo Valdés Sanz inherited it from the latter, and after several changes of ownership it passed in 1910 to D. Matías Sánchez Cobaleda. In 1921, he transferred it to D. José Marzal, who adopted the brand still used today and expanded the herd with cows and a breeding bull from the widow of Soler, of Ibarra, Parladé and Conde de la Corte origin, eliminating all the previous stock. Breeding bulls from Pablo Romero and Conde de la Corte were added to these Soler cows in 1927 and 1931. D. Marcelino Rodríguez acquired the ranch in 1943 and sold it in 1958 to D. Salvador Gavira Sánchez. From 1976, the ranch appeared under the name D. Salvador y Antonio Gavira. In 1985, the bloodline was refreshed with 46 older cows and a breeding bull from Toros de El Torero, owned by D. Salvador Domecq.
