- History
- Ganadería de San Isidro resulted from D. Raúl Tenorio’s purchase in 2015 of the cattle, brand rights, ribbon colours and seniority date of Giménez Indarte (Baños de la Encina, Jaén). The cattle were then moved to the “Matarredonda de los Llanillos” estate in Villarejo de Salvanés, Madrid, retaining the first part of the estate’s original name as a mark of respect. The ranch was founded by D. Bernardino Giménez in 1927, when he bought the Jijona herd, crossed with Veragua, from the widow of Damián Gil Flores. Its first bulls were fought in Madrid at the now-demolished Carretera de Aragón bullring on 15 August 1932. In 1941, after disposing of the remaining Jijona-Veragua cattle, a group of cows and two breeding bulls were purchased from the Marqués de Villamarta, creating a new ranch in both bloodline and brand: the latter was changed to an inverted triangle topped by a cross. Apparently satisfied, he expanded the herd in 1948 with another group of two-year-old heifers and two further breeding bulls, this time from D. Clemente Tassara, of the same ‘Villamarta’ origin. After D. Bernardino’s death in 1958, the ranch competed under the name ‘Hijos de D. Bernardino Giménez Indarte’ and was divided into three. Our share was named ‘Gimenez Indarte’, under D. Gerardo Giménez Mena. In 1970, another group of cows and a breeding bull were acquired from D. Manuel Arranz Sánchez of Salamanca, who had renewed his herd with cattle of Graciliano Pérez-Tabernero, Antonio Pérez-Tabernero, María Montalvo and Conde de la Corte origin. Finally, in 1987, a new bloodline from the Marqués de Domecq and Salvador Domecq became the predominant stock in the herd, managed from 1992 by D. Gerardo Giménez Ortega and D. Enrique Giménez Ortega. In 2015, D. Raúl Tenorio Humanes acquired the ranch, renamed it Ganadería de San Isidro and moved it to Villarejo de Salvanés (Madrid).
