History
In 1938, Don José Enrique Calderón bought from Don Salvador Domecq y Díez part of the lot inherited from his father, Don Juan Pedro Domecq y Núñez de Villavicencio, of Veragua origin. In 1949, the share belonging to Don Ricardo Calderón Alcalde was sold to Don Salvador Algarra. In 1956, Don Salvador Domecq y Díez acquired Don Salvador Algarra’s herd, removing the cattle of Algarra origin. He changed the brand’s design in 1960. As for the cattle’s origins, in 1930 Don Juan Pedro Domecq y Núñez de Villavicencio acquired the Duque de Veragua herd from Don Manuel Martín Alonso. Don Juan Pedro enlarged it with cows and breeding bulls from Conde de la Corte. When he died in 1937, his children, the Domecq y Díez brothers, inherited it, removing some of the Veragua stock and adding cattle from Don Ramón Mora-Figueroa and Conde de la Corte. In 1968, Don Salvador separated from his brothers, Don Juan Pedro and Don Pedro, taking the one-third share due to him and beginning to advertise it as Toros de El Torero. In 1970, he changed the brand again to the current design. From 2002, Don Salvador Domecq y Díez transferred the brand and a quarter of the cattle to his daughter, Doña Lola Domecq Sainz de Rozas, with their origins remaining intact.
