His grandfather Celestino Román passed on his passion for bullfighting and took him to Las Ventas from childhood. He first performed in public in Colmenarejo in 1989 and first wore the suit of lights in Valdemorillo in 1991. His Madrid triumph on 27 May 1997, against an Alcurrucén bull, established his standing. After leaving the ring in 2002, he returned in 2007 at Barcelona's Monumental, where he cut three ears and was carried out on shoulders.
