El Cotolengo: an afternoon of reunions and solidarity
Actualizado el
The XXXVI Festival del Cotolengo brings five matadors and pupil Neyzan Espín together in Albacete. Proceeds benefit the Institución Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, in an event uniting several generations of local bullfighting.
The returns that make this line-up special
Sergio Martínez, Abraham Barragán, Antón Cortés, César Jiménez and Andrés Palacios will share the afternoon with Neyzan Espín, a pupil of the Escuela Taurina de Albacete. The festival offers a chance to see professionals who are no longer regularly active return to the ring alongside a representative of the next generation.
Sergio Martínez, director of the Albacete school, is preparing his return sixteen years after his last appearance, as he told Radio Albacete. Antón Cortés also sees this comeback as a special commitment to the bullring and the charitable cause. The performers are taking part without payment.
The novillos and the festival's beneficiary
The initial line-up announces two novillos from Los Chospes and cattle from Castillo de Montizón, Garcigrande and San Isidro, plus an animal supplied by the promoter whose brand is not specified in that announcement. Cattle of different origins make up the six performances.
The event reaches its thirty-sixth edition in aid of Cotolengo, an institution supporting people in need in Albacete. The afternoon's appeal lies both in the bullfighting reunions and in the contribution of participants and spectators to that charitable work.
